"The Power to Change Lives"
That's what the San Francisco Chronicle said about a new book entitled Coyote's Guide to Connecting with Nature. The Foreword was written by Richard Louv, author of the best-seller, The Last Child in the Woods. Louv said the book, "is good medicine for nature deficit disorder."

Senior author, Jon Young will teach a workshop entitled, "Seeing Through Native Eyes." The workshop is sponsored by Outside Now. It examines how to mentor people to nature, and the consequences of cultural mentoring for community resilience.

What is Cultural Mentoring?
How was it that indigenous cultures raised people to have such deep connection to the natural world, even if there were no formal "schools"? Immersion in nature is the essence of the indigenous cultural experience. In absence of such a naturebased culture, what are the results? What if we were to re-create such culture again, but in our modern setting? What restorative effects do we have to gain, both for human health and the environment?
