Summer programs for preschoolers and teens
Sandpipers (ages 3-5): Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays
Weeks of June 22, 2009 – August 30, 2009
(no program week of Independence Day and Labor Day)
For the preschool age child the adventure begins each morning right outside their door. They may stop on the way to the car to pick up a rock or admire a beetle. They learn through seeing, doing, touching, discovering and being. We encourage and facilitate this innate need to explore and experience the world around them. Pre-school age children are still developing their senses and learning to integrate them. They have an intense “need to know”. The CCVC gives them the framework and safety net to follow this natural curiosity.
Class Details: Sandpipers is ideally suited for ages 3-5. Sibling involvement and parent participation are available with instructor approval. We keep a 6:1 ratio and we cap enrollment at 10 children. Our instructors are highly trained nature and early childhood enthusiasts! Sandpipers’ lead instructors are gifted at finding the luminous moments in the wonders of nature. We know they weave together backgrounds in Natural Education, Waldorf and Coyote Mentoring - the kids just know it’s magic.
Where?
Sandpipers meet at Hawks’ Perch in Templeton - a family homestead steeped with simple country delights ranging from bunnies to pet, pomegranates to pick and of course, the much loved Tipi.
What do we do?
Children’s days are filled with activities that develop motor skills, balance, communication skills, sensory integration and foster their deep connection to the natural world. We tell stories, play games, make seasonal projects, wander and often get wet, muddy and happy! We encourage the natural curiosity, awe and wonder of children...

Teen Backpacking Expedition:
July 27 - August 1st, 2009
The Teen Backpacking expedition will be headed to Big Pine Canyon, 10 miles west of the town of Big Pine. There we will backpack in to the foot of the Palisades Glacier. The Palisades Glacier is the largest and most spectacular glacier in the Sierra Nevada, measuring miles wide and over 200ft thick. We will be spending the week exploring the high alpine (above 10,000'ft) jagged slopes and making our camps among the turquoise glacial lakes of Big Pine Canyon. There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting where we will cover appropriate gear and clothing Monday July 20th 6:00pm Location TBA. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Cost: $500 - $725 Sliding Scale. We offer a sliding scale so families can contribute more or less tuition based on their available resources.
