Sign up for our teen rites of passage

We meet once a month to focus on women's and men's gifts and prepare for a rites of passage trip in June. We will also be working on tracking adventures, wilderness skills, peacemaking, group building and that's just the beginning! Ongoing collaborations with Wilderness Youth Project of Santa Barbara (www.wyp.org) and Riekes Center in Menlo Park (www.riekes.org) enrich this program.

Our Sandpipers preschool age program has begun... YEA!

For the preschool age child the adventure begins each morning right outside their door. They may stop on the way to the car to pick up a rock or admire a beetle. They learn through seeing, doing, touching, manipulating and being. We encourage and facilitate this innate need to explore and experience the world around them. Pre school age children are still developing their senses and learning to integrate them. They have an intense “need to know”. The CCVC gives them the framework and safety net to follow this natural curiosity.

At Nature School our mentors see themselves as adopted uncles and aunties. Over the years this has created an amazing extended family of kids and adults who care for one another and work to lift us all toward our inspirations. Mentors focus on developing naturalist skills in the students within a nature immersion philosophy. It is equally important for us to engage a child's senses in the natural world as it is to increase their knowledge base. Nature School travels to one of approximately 20 locations throughout the county where we will engage the students in many activities to build their relationship to place, the group and themselves. Our daily activities are designed around a natural flow of experiences which respect each individual's particular needs

Tipi Day has a somewhat different focus than the other days of Nature School. This program is primarily based in one location and is based on the themes of community, sustainability, primitive skills, and gardening. Our aim is to bring together a larger community with Elders, Aunties, Uncles and children. Our intention is to recreate a living "village center" as a place to ground our activities and develop a real relationship with one place. There will be fire, music, handiwork, building projects and mentoring taking place in an integrated village setting. Tipi Day takes place in Templeton, at the Hawk's Perch Ranch

Developing the ability and confidence to explore the unknown, learning to adapt to ever changing circumstances, and building a stable bond with one's self, community, and place are among our highest values in mentoring young adults. This fall, teenagers will begin their journey through rites of passage, community activism, creative expression, and contemplative reflection toward adulthood and self-definition. CCVC is partnering with Global Village School in Ojai to provide transcripts for this four-day per week program (Tuesday - Friday).

Teen School students will start the year off with a two day camping trip to Kings Canyon on August 24 & 25 ($75 cost).
